WREP Volunteer running for a worthy Charity
Rikesh Misty, a WREP Volunteer, will be running this year's London Marathon on Sunday 22nd April 2012 and raising funds to support the Charity MACS. MACS, The Micro and Anophthalmic Children's Society, brings support and Families together to help children born with no eyes and partially developed eyes. Further information on the charity can be found at this link.
This is a cause close to Rikesh's heart and running the London Marathon has always been a dream of his.
"To run the London Marathon has been one of my goals since I was a child. From an early age and after watching the event broadcast live on TV almost every year, I feel it is a prestigious event and a true test of an athlete's endurance and character. Fitness plays a major part in my life and competing in such an event would rank among the highest of my sporting achievements. Although physically the marathon and training is demanding, I believe it will be mentally challenging too. However, I am up to the challenge. This will be the biggest fundraising target I have ever had to achieve and for this reason it is important that I believe in the cause, enabling me to become more passionate about my goal.
MACS is a charity that I have come to know about through a close friend of mine. With his child benefiting from the support that is given by the organisaion, I have seen the charity in action first hand. Because of this I am motivated to support a cause that I have seen working well and believe in wholeheartedly. I have the utmost respect for the employees of MACS, predominantly because they volunteer and receive no financial incentive. I feel that such a philanthropic commitment is one to be commended and that by running the marathon, raising funds, and raising awareness for the charity, I can help the cause.
I am an avid fitness enthusiast, and feel that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. I have been described as an approachable and engaging individual with good people skills. Completing the London Marathon has been a long term goal of mine and, if given the chance, I would be heavily motivated for training and fundraising. Being surrounded by similarly minded fitness enthusiasts (both friends and family), I would have a strong support network that spans a variety of activities from running and cycling, to the gym and football. This would help me to stay motivated and on track to a tailor made training regime for the marathon. Given the opportunity I can achieve this lifetime goal of mine."
