WREP Inter Cultural Cricket Match

Warwickshire Race Equality Partnership hosted an inter-cultural cricket match on Thursday 8th July 2010.  The two competing teams consisted of representatives from a number of different faiths and cultures, including members of the local community and public organisations.  The match was sponsored by Warwickshire Police and took place on the prestigious grounds of Rugby School.

The cricket match was organised by WREP's Rugby BME Sport and Active Recreation Project which was launched in January 2009.  The overall aims of the project are to increase participation of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities in sport and active recreation, to tackle inequality and to promote and encourage community cohesion through the vehicle of sports.  The event was enjoyed by all who played and spectated and discussions have already begun in relation t a re-match and other future activities.  The Deputy Chief Executive of Rugby Borough Council, Andrew Gabbitas, opened the event and the winner's trophy was presented to team captain Isbar Ali by the Rugby Mayor Cllr. Donald Williams and Warwickshire Police Chief Officer, Mr Mak Chishty.

The WREP community team won the match with 181 runs over 20 overs.  WREP would like to thank Reverend Mark Beech from St. Andres Church, the staff at Harris School and Rugby School, Warwickshire Police and the community members that took part and supported the event.
