Warwickshire Race and Disability Event 2009

On Thursday 14th May 2009 WREP organised a Warwickshire Race and Disability Event 2009.  The event was opened to public, community and voluntary sector organisations and individuals. It was also open to specialists with a stake and interest in supporting disabled people from minority ethnic backgrounds.

The Race and Disability Event was a unique opportunity to engage with communities and organisations across Warwickshire. The purpose of the event was to instigate effective and sustainable guidance and support to disabled individuals and groups from BME communities and to encourage the participation of disabled people from BME communities in decision making processes. It was held to understand some of the issues concerning race and disability and to raise awareness of the specific concerns that individuals from these communities face.   It was also held to identify further ways in developing partnership working and ways that can meaningfully involve BME disabled people in aspects such as contributing to local decision making processes. The information gathered will have an impact on the way services are delivered to BME disabled people and help address not only public participation but hate crime which is rising year on year.

Over 70 delegates attended the event from across Warwickshire.

Following on from this event a report was produced.  Please see the below link to access this document:
